Sarasota-based urologist Stephen Scionti, MD, of Scionti Prostate Center, has improved prostate cancer detection by nearly 25% using Unfold AI, according to Avenda Health. Developed by Avenda Health, Unfold AI combines prior imaging, biopsy results, and pathology data to create a 3D cancer map. This map estimates the cancer’s extent, assisting physicians in determining the most appropriate treatments.
Prostate cancer afflicts about 13% of men, of which 2 – 3 men die. Patients being treated for prostate cancer using traditional surgical methods often face undesirable complications post-treatment: incontinence and impotence. Dr. Scionti adds, “Using traditional surgical treatments, patients may still experience cancer recurrence or lifelong side effects. That’s a pretty high price for a man to pay.”
Unfold AI mitigates surgical complications
Unfold AI identifies cancer extent with 84% accuracy, surpassing the 67% accuracy rate of traditional diagnostics, according to Avenda Health. By offering a predictive model of the cancer spread, Unfold AI helps physicians reduce the risk of surgical complications, improving patient outcomes and quality of life. Dr. Scionti notes, “…preserving [unaffected] prostate tissue preserves function.” Documents supporting these improvements can be found here.
Dr. Scionti’s adoption of Unfold AI is the first on Florida’s Gulf Coast. “We are excited to see Unfold AI implemented in new regions across the country, expanding access to this life-changing AI technology,” says Shyam Natarajan, PhD, CEO of Avenda Health. “By enhancing diagnostic capabilities, we can deliver better health outcomes for prostate cancer patients.”
