Marcel, a European bistro, opened in October 2023 in the space formerly known as Melange. Marcel (1568 Main Street) is one of three distinct ventures by Chef Jeremy Duclut in the area. Alongside Marcel, Duclut also operates Pangea, a speakeasy bar, and Wooden Rooster, a creperie—each offering unique dining experiences. Marcel is open daily from 4:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
This cozy 45-seat bistro encourages diners to embrace community by sharing dishes rather than sticking to individual entrées. “We wanted to get away from [single entrees] so that people have more to try,” says Duclut. The menu is designed to guide guests through the best order of items for an optimal dining experience, without separating dishes into traditional categories like appetizers or desserts.
Duclut highlights two standout dishes to begin the culinary adventure at Marcel. The green bean dish, inspired by classic French cuisine, features chard green beans dressed in an Amaretto almond sauce. Another favorite is the Mortadella Toast, which combines Italian pistachio-infused Mortadella with a buttery croissant, baked twice with honey and butter for a rich and indulgent bite.
“…Every chef’s dream…”
Marcel’s intimate size not only creates a sense of exclusivity but also allows Chef Duclut and his team the freedom to experiment. “It’s every chef’s dream to have a small restaurant where you can do what you want,” Duclut shares.
The creativity doesn’t stop at Marcel. Duclut’s other businesses complement the bistro’s offerings perfectly. Wooden Rooster provides savory and sweet treats for after-dinner indulgence on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, while Pangea serves as a cocktail laboratory, featuring inventive, seasonal drinks. Each concept undergoes regular menu updates, ensuring guests experience something fresh and exciting with every visit.
