Faccio’s Sandwich Shop (3590 Weber St.) brings a taste of classic New York to Sarasota, Fla. The original Faccio’s was founded in the early 1900s in the West Village of Manhattan. Fourth-generation owner Edward L. Faccio ran the Manhattan location from 1998 until 2022 before Edward brought his New York City eats to Sarasota, Fla.

Faccio’s offers delicious deli-style sandwiches, ready-to-go hot meals and much more. “It’s like a scaled-down version of New York,” says Edward. “The sandwiches you get here you can’t find anywhere else.”

Popular sandwiches include Italian, chicken parmesan, sausage, Cuban and Philly cheesesteak. Faccio highly recommends the porchetta sandwich: seasoned pork belly and boneless loin with a layer of bacon in between them before being slow-roasted for eight hours, sliced and served. On weekends, the chefs at Faccio’s whip up fresh mozzarella.

Balancing tradition with innovation

Like many old-school butcher shops, Faccio’s adapted to the times. Instead of operating as a standard butcher, most of their offerings are ready to eat. Though, of course, they retain some of those original, Manhattan butchery roots. They make three kinds of sausage in-house, sweet, spicy, and a thin sausage stuffed with cheese and parsley.

“No one duplicates what we do,” declares Edward with well-deserved pride. “We’ve been slowly building up a solid customer base.”

The original Faccio’s, founded by Edward’s great-grandfather, still operates in the West Village of Manhattan. In addition, Edward’s brother continues to operate a market-style Faccio’s in Brooklyn. The continued legacy of Faccio’s testifies to the care and quality they produce, making Faccio’s a welcome new addition to the Sarasota food scene.
