When its sweltering heat sizzles the streets in Sarasota, there’s nothing comparable to quelling bead-sweet like an ice cream cone, malt, shake, or a custom-made sundae, especially when made the traditional Amish way. Pinecraft Ice Cream Shoppe (3350 Bahia Vista St.) offers mouthwatering, brain-freezing scoops of Chocolate, Birthday Cake, Cookies and Cream, Vanilla soft serve, freeze-dried candy, and my favorite: two scoops of Affogato mixed with two shots of espresso.
Currently owned and operated by Emma and her family (since 2023), Pinecraft Ice Cream Shoppe is a neighborhood staple conjoined by another local standout, Village Pizzas by Emma, operated by the same owner as Pinecraft Ice Cream, so you can enjoy a little savory before or after your sweet.
Historic Pinecraft neighborhood is a must visit
Pinecraft Ice cream is located in the Pinecraft neighborhood of Sarasota, which boasts a unique history and story in Florida. Pinecraft was founded in the 1920s for Amish and Mennonites to use the land for agriculture. Unfortunately, the land was not suitable for the primary crop, celery, however a grid of small homes remains as do many Amish, who return during the winter months, swelling and shrinking the population each year.
The numerous businesses in the area offer visitors a hard-earned certificate of quality. From the handmade furniture, the fresh groceries, and the delicious restaurants, the area is a must-visit, especially Pinecraft Icecream and Village Pizzas by Emma.
