NYT listed Phillippi Creek Village Restaurant & Oyster Bar (5353 S Tamiami Trail), Project Coffee (538 S Pineapple Ave. & 1419 5th St.), Sage (1216 1st St.), Siesta Key Oyster Bar, aka, SKOB (5238 Ocean Blvd.), and Gilligan’s Island Bar (5251 Ocean Blvd.).
Here’s a quick breakdown of each joint:
- Phillippi Creek Village Restaurant & Oyster Bar boasts a casual waterfront dinning experience. Nestled right on the creek, you can enjoy delicious meals and a superb, tranquil view. Check them out here.
- Project Coffee has a few locations in Sarasota, and while their menu is small, they are known for giving a little extra twist to classic brunch staples. Notably, the NYT touted their frozen acai bowl with cornflakes and black sesame crumble.
- Sage Restaurant is part of the Realm Group of restauranteurs. Sage’s stunning building dates back to 1925, designed by renowned architect Dwight James Baum, who also envisioned the Ca d’Zan mansion behind the John and Mable Ringling Museum. Sage serves decadent upscale courses that will surely impress.
- Siesta Key Oyster Bar is easily identifiable as dollar bills signed by patrons pepper the walls. This gem is beloved by locals and visitors alike, serving delicious no-frills, fresh Florida food. Of course, you have to try the oysters here at least once. And leave a bill signed on the wall (if you can find room).
- Gilligan’s Island Bar is located in Siesta Key Village a stone’s throw from the highest-ranked beach in the USA: Siesta Key Beach. Complete with a thatched room tiki bar, this local treasure is the perfect stop before or after the beach.
